Ledesma Elementary School is the first new school in the Oak Grove District in the past 25 years. The site is
located high on a plateau overlooking the Santa Clara Valley. The spectacular view was offset by the challenge of providing access
compliance across the site. The design program called for mixed building types: classrooms were constructed from modular units,
the Multi-Purpose building with standard construction. The main building housed administration in the front. The surrounding
classrooms are linked together by a uniform, shared roof design that transitions the building's occupants to the outside. The
library and multipurpose space look out on to the open patio and protects from the prevailing winds that might disrupt the lunch
area.
Weston Miles was the District Architect and reresentative designing the site, interiors, and multipurpose space
and monitoring/reviewing the work of the Architect of Record.
